The formula, in one line

A U-100 syringe has 100 units per millilitre, so each "unit" is 0.01 mL. That means the whole conversion is just two steps: mL = mg ÷ concentration, thenunits = mL × 100. Reverse it to go from units back to mg. The one number you can't skip is the concentration — a syringe measures volume, not milligrams, so without mg/mL there is nothing to convert.

Where the concentration comes from

If your vial is pre-mixed, the concentration is on the label (for example "10 mg/mL", or a total like "50 mg / 5 mL" which is the same 10 mg/mL). If you reconstitute a powder yourself, the concentration is the vial amount ÷ the diluent volume you add. Common questions

How do you convert mg to units on a syringe?

You need the concentration in mg/mL. Divide the dose in mg by the concentration to get the volume in mL, then multiply mL by 100 for a U-100 (insulin-style) syringe. So units = (mg ÷ mg/mL) × 100. Without the concentration, mg cannot be converted to units at all.

How do you convert units back to mg?

Divide the units by 100 to get mL, then multiply mL by the concentration in mg/mL. So mg = (units ÷ 100) × mg/mL. The converter above does this automatically in both directions.

Why do I need the concentration?

A syringe measures volume (mL), not mass (mg). "Units" are just hundredths of a millilitre on a U-100 syringe. To turn a volume into a milligram amount you must know how many milligrams are in each millilitre — that is the concentration, and it is printed on your vial or set when you reconstitute it.

Does this work for any peptide or GLP-1 medication?

The arithmetic is the same for any compound measured from a vial with a U-100 syringe — the only variable is your vial’s concentration. It does not apply to pre-filled pens, which are dosed by the manufacturer and need no conversion.
