It also includes a couple of modified and mirror-image (“D-”) amino acid residues, which is a common design choice in synthetic peptide chemistry — it changes how quickly the molecule breaks down once it’s in solution or in the body, compared to an all-natural sequence.
It usually arrives as a small glass vial of white powder. The powder is the peptide with the water removed (freeze-dried, or “lyophilised”) so it stays stable in storage. On its own, the powder can’t be measured into a syringe — there’s no volume to draw. That’s why the next step, reconstitution, exists.
The science, a little deeper
A few specifics that the plain-English version glosses over:
- It’s a defined 5-amino-acid sequence, written as Aib-His-D-2Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. Aib (alpha-aminoisobutyric acid) and the two D-amino acid residues are not part of the standard set of 20 amino acids the body normally uses to build proteins — they were substituted in deliberately during synthesis.
- It belongs to the GHRP family. Growth-hormone-releasing peptides are a group of research compounds studied for their interaction with the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary gland, a receptor distinct from the one used by the body’s own growth-hormone-releasing hormone.
- “Research chemical” is a regulatory status, not a marketing word. Ipamorelin has not been approved as a drug for any condition. Much of what’s published about it is preclinical — laboratory and animal studies — and this page makes no claim about what it does in people.

How reconstitution works for Ipamorelin

- Draw volume = target amount ÷ concentration
